A big thank you to the wonderful Helena Shakespeare, makeup artist extraordinaire, for sharing some fantastic bridal make tips in this guest post. A must-read for every bride to be!
Naturally radiant, glowing and polished. That’s usually the brief when I meet most brides for their wedding makeup trial. And although I always turn up for my brides with a suitcase full of goodies to play with, there are a few products in my kit that I turn to time and time again.
Most of my brides want a natural feel to their makeup with an ethereal glow, and a flawless overall look, which is ultimately a polished version of themselves.
So which 3 products am I always using on my brides?
- Most brides want a natural glow to their skin without feeling or looking oily. To help achieve this I’m always using my Becca Backlight Primer. After applying your skincare use this illuminating primer for a soft-focus, ‘lit-from-within’ look to enhance your natural radiance. It applies beautifully to moisturised skin and blends seamlessly with foundation, so that its soft pearls glow delicately on the high points of your face. It gives your complexion such a smooth and dewy canvas for your wedding day and adds longevity to your makeup. My top tip is to use it once you’ve finished your makeup too. You can do this by gently dotting along your cheekbones to give such an understated, complexion warming highlight, which isn’t too much like some powder highlighters can be.
- Bronzing adds a healthy radiance to all skins. And it’s a step that I would encourage all brides to include in their bridal makeup, because of how healthy looking a tan always seems. Chanel’s Soleil Tan Bronze Universel is the perfect product for this. It has a gel like texture and isn’t too dark. So unlike some powder bronzers, it’s easier to use because of how buildable it is. It blends to a velvety finish and lightly warms up most complexions. It’s best used with a short kabuki brush and buffed where the sun would naturally kiss your face. My top tip for this product is to mix with any left over foundation you have on your hand and extend your glow across your shoulders and décolletage.
- The right lip colour polishes every bridal look, and is the perfect finishing touch. Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillowtalk’ is that universal shade; especially now the shade range has been extended to include deeper versions. That’s great news for those of us with a darker complexion or those of us that like to make their lips the defining feature. Pillowtalk is an iconic nude-pink that you’ll definitely wear after the wedding too. It offers a moisturising matte formula to hydrate lips, but giving a colour that has some staying power. It gives the appearance of fuller looking lips with its nourishing light-reflecting pigment. So your lips appear softer, smoother and ultimately kissable for the moment when you seal your marriage during in the ceremony. It can even be used as a cream blush!
So whether you hire a Bridal Makeup Artist for your wedding day or not, these three wonder products are a good place to start in perfecting your dream bridal look for your wedding day.
